"Every sense nerve in his brain was disconnected"? Silver. Don't believe everything you read on the internet. Which reminds me, there is a movie out about some kid who died and went to heaven and came back to report his findings. I'll go for broke and call this contrived bs, catering to Christians. What a muddled wretch I am: seeking spiritual verities while being completely skeptical about stories like this one. The guys (and gal) on Shaun's list mostly say the same thing about the old religions: there is a kernel of truth at the core of them that's been obscured by centuries of institutionalization. As far as the outlandish story's are concerned, there's no shortage of charlatan's willing to capitalize on the gullibility borne of desperation of the vulnerable and hurting. It's easy to dismiss all of it with a pure skeptical eye, but the fact is that a disbelief is just a belief with a not in front of it.

I figured if it was true (the experiment), that whatever they did to 'disconnect' his senses was the cause of his going crazy -- it was something within the procedure(s) itself that made him go mad. I did not post this story as if I believed it, FYI.

This photo marks the end of Matador Torero Alvaro Munera's career. He collapsed in remorse mid-fight when he realized he was having to prompt this otherwise gentle beast to fight. He went on to become an avid opponent of bullfights. (The look on this bull's face says it all for me. Even grievously wounded by picadors, he did not attack this man.) Torrero Munera is quoted as saying of this moment: "And suddenly, I looked at the bull. He had this innocence that all animals have in their eyes. www.snopes.com/photos/people/munera.aspMerrick

The whole story being that the originally posted story was a bunch of fiction? Didn't you read it? I read the snopes link which says that the version of the story you posted was made up by someone else and that the picture isn't even of the guy in the story. The pose in the picture is actually a display of domination over the bull (according to snopes).

Right...in spite of that, the story about the guy who did break down at some point and started having those feelings of regret (only after he was put out of commission) did go on to advocate for the bulls by being anti-bullfighting. I guess it's just natural for me to extract the 'story' - knowing in the back of my mind, that the 'photo' may be a mere prop.

Sometimes fiction and imagination are closer to the usage of the word "truth" as a pointer than actual events. Likely there's been at least one toreador who came the the realization described in the middle of a fight, even if it ain't documented.

Ha ha yeah, true stories are like co.ckroaches...if you see one, you know there are plenty more hidden.

didn't watch the vid, but it almost could be said that the two complaints thus far have validated the quote
