It's a person who follows the forum but does not post.

In the couple of times I've checked, I've noticed a whopping number of non-posting 'guests'. (360 in the last 24 hours) Dunno if that's normal for a forum, but it seems to be normal for this one. Lots of folks just like to read, I guess.

Is there something 'wrong' about not posting ? ! ....seems as though a forum would be open to readers and posters both..... ?

....the word 'lurker' seems to denote 'sneaky' intentions. I, for one, post seldom - but read often...........

No, no--I don't think sneaky intentions. Just I notice many who never post and wondered why that is.

Basically, it's like there's 10x or more nonposters than posters

i used to post but then the forum got really silly and banal - all about personal drama, who was staying and who was leaving, karma points and ridiculousness. i barely even check here anymore. juicy discussions have gone by the wayside it seems. maybe next season.

in my case i don't log in unless i have something to say. the posts could be about something as stupid as karma points, or who has the most spiritual shoes on today, or a music video, or poems which i like to read but really have nothing to add, or the posts could be simply one person telling the other how freaking enlightened he or she is while pointing out that here is no way anyone else has ever known or could ever know anything other than falseness. it may also be one person yaking about what others are doing instead of taking any interest in spirituality, kind of like i'm doing, or a few people needing to feel stroked so they tell each other whatever they think the other needs to hear.
at times watching all of these personalities collide allows me to reflect on my own thought process without needing to write a word. but that's just me.
r.

as a former lurker myself, i'd say there's a time and place for everything. my time and place right now appears to be typing whatever the heck up here for all the world to see. not much difference!

Forums like these contain that contain a lot of useful advice usually have a huge number of lurkers. Only some people feel compelled to post. People find the answers to their questions just by reading others questions, so they feel no need to clutter up the forum with questions that have already been answered.
I appreciate this forum because for the most part it tends to stay focused on the topic it was created for. Sometimes though it does deviate into goofy conversations about karma points and why some people post and some people don't. ;-)
Some people only post every once in a while, but when they do it's a gem. Other people just seem to like the sound of their e-voice and post constantly, but their posts are of poor quality. Still, others like Zen and Enigma seem to churn out wisdom like it was coming out of a fire house haha.

Aw didn't like my song
*le sad*
Tbh, I don't stop and think: Oh, gee, will this be life-shattering advice or a provoking question? I just post my thoughts. And if people don't like it, well . . . There is always the ignore button.
