New here, and trying to understand how ya go about getting karma points? Or giving them? And what purpose do they ultimately serve?? Sorry if that was explained somewhere above here. Need it in plain English. Thanks. When logged in, a user can 'give' a karma point by clicking on 'exalt' or 'take away' a karma point by clicking on 'smite.' Both exalt and smite are located on the left side under the username. There is a limit to the number of karma points that can be given or taken away (one action per hour is my guess). There are no rules or reasons to give or take away karma points. There may seem to be some correlation between karma points and 'value of posts,' but ultimately this is not very reliable. Gotta read and sort out the value yourself. As far as I understand it, the karma point mechanism is something we're stuck with using proboards for a forum.

The karma system is obviously not working, if a long-time dedicated contributor such as Enigma, which has helped many posters, can have all his karma points wiped out in one night by some new jealous forum member.

I gave obscene amounts of karma to cyberbluntz. Why, you ask?
Simple: His name made me laugh. Repeatedly. So, repeated karma points. Though a number fought against me on this :-p
I have only "smote" maybe 6 times. Too busy making gurus to go about smiting
Oh and other reason: Amusement. Was curious what would happen, especially given various statements.

I guess you proved your point about how arbitrary it is. You were right!

They were arbitrary before. I've just demonstrated how arbitrary.
I'm giving you one now because: Where did they all go??

My post about lurkers . . . I suspect sockpuppets set up with the intention to manipulate karma points.

I wonder what in the world posters have inside them to prove to themselves by using KPs on a message board with posters they don't even know, much less by not taking the time to explore the intents of the messages of what they're attempting to understand or point to?!
Just look at the intent of the actions taking place, and be honest with what you see. Doing that leads in the direction of what this board is actually intended to explore, discuss, and point to.
Thank you for all who are sincere. It's easy to sense that honesty.

I'm not sure what I intended. I just was honestly curious what would happen if I inflated a relatively unknown poster's karma points. Perhaps there's something malicious there. I think it's just boredom and frustration No harm intended, but I do think some shadows were brought up.

Honestly, I have never once used them. And yes, they are arbitrary. Period.
I think you'd be surprised to find what the root of one's intention actually is, and more importantly, what it's not. This forum is more focused on pointing out THAT which is prior to the weeding process, which is limited and can not find THAT which might be called Truth, God, Love, Peace or Whatever. However, as long as you still believe a me exists, you will likely carry through with some of the weeding process anyway.
I don't remember exactly, but it seems that was part of the reason you came to the board in the first place; something in your recent life hasn't worked out, and you're looking for a direction.

When I first came, things were okay. Now I am utter failure. But in a month I go on vacation and forget all my cares.
