My spiritual journey has been a solo experience up until this year. I don't know any like-minded people, and beginning to describe one's aha moments after reading a passage from I Am That is hardly party conversation. My wife has watched me take my twisting spiritual path with an open mind, but without much interest. She's probably the happiest person I know, and thus has no real appetite for the transformational teachings that have been so important to me.
Having a forum like this is a completely new experience for me, and I'm wondering what other's experience has been. How public are you with your your most initimate spiritual experiences? Do you share them with your "other"? Are they interested? Does it matter? Etc.?

Hi johnny,
Welcome to the board!
Your story sounds familiar to mine, except I met my gal after the dust had settled a bit. But, having been exposed to such 'stuff', she sensed the oddity and was very supportive.
This forum was also the first and, in a way, the only real place I have shared such thingies. I have met certain others that could hang with the perspectives or lack thereof, but generally speaking, any real attempts have been met with those certain looks. There was that feeling of "where do we start, but I really 'wanted' to express "how do we finish". hehe
Now, most of any interaction is just comme ci comme ca, with an occasional pushing into boundaries to see where they might give, but pulling back before any religious or world view fervor kicks in! hehe That and observing nature....outside, inside, and between.
Ooops, off to class!

Hello Johnny & Somenothing, My experience has been that since I began my spiritual journey,or voyage of self discovery as I like to call it.. I have discovered just how many people have these inner dialog's, about the meaning of life and what is its purpose. They may not openly discuss it, but its there inside. So even if they do not share the same depth, in which we have decided to explore, it does interest them. I find I take my cue from them, in as much as how far I go in discussing my interests. By building up slowly. I do not like to force these types of conversations, because I feel that defeats the object of sharing. It has to be mutually enjoyable. I have found to my delight, that the more I walk a spiritual path, the more like minded people I seem to be drawn to and they to me. Light attracts light.. I am very fortunate in that my partner shares my interests. He too is a healer and he is also very philosophical. Though we met through our shared interests, so I guess it isn't surprising. I have found though that philosophical discussion raises fewer eyebrows then discussing healing or energy work. Those reactions have veered from a shrinking away, for fear my head might start spinning around to deep interest and enthusiasm and a desire to hear more about it, and a request for a physical demonstration.. I do feel though, that in the world in general, we are experiencing a real surge in spiritual consciousness and awareness. Many are questioning, wanting to know more about themselves, the world on many levels and the meaning of life. I believe the conversations and sharing that you have been speaking of, will in the not to distant future, become more and more commonplace. Love and light Ladyhawk

Second nothing ever changes Truly the same % of folks always do the same thing the only difference is we now live in a i-pod, internet world which is really a throw back of the 60's when all you had to do was to drop a bit of acid to be in contact with everyone. Now you have to work for the $$ to buy the i-pods/computers then pay for the internet you see how complex things are now. But in truth nothing changes The real surge came probably before you were born back in the late 60's when Tim Learly and Ram Dass hit the scene and the Beatles came over those were the days. When TM first hit and folks were learning to fly taking advance flying by Shiddha yogis yes those were the days. These days you are lucky if you can get a spiritual burp from someone let alone learn to fly by the seat of your pants. These days Native American Indians care more about how many slot machines they can put up or tax free smoke stands. These days the yogis of old have traded their old clothes for a suit and tie and a walk down wall street. Yup Nothing changes except adding more digits to your zipcode. So seriously a big welcome to you and yours to the land of forget me not. Michael

Hello, and welcome. This forum is probably the only place I actually get into any 'real' discussions about this stuff. Like someNOTHING mentioned, talking about this sort of stuff generally gets you some weird looks. The only people that have ever had even the slightest interest in this stuff outside of this website for me have been people that are generally in unique situations like near death experiences, drugs, and other such weird things. I don't really like to talk about this stuff with too many of those people though because once I get started my mouth just won't shut.

Yeah I pretty much don't talk about it. I talk about it somewhat with my partner, just keeping her a bit up to date about where I am, but I never try to convince her of any spiritual "truths" or anything like that. Sometimes I meet people who have a bit of interest to discuss philosophical issues but if I would start talking about "oneness" or that concepts are all false very few people dare to tag along. I must admit I'm also a bit reluctant to try to teach someone about this, as I feel my path has been a horrible example and I wouldnt wish it upon anyone else.

"I must admit I'm also a bit reluctant to try to teach someone about this, as I feel my path has been a horrible example and I wouldnt wish it upon anyone else." If a seeker is in a position to see what's actually happening with regard to his spiritual search, (which I think many here are) he has to admit that it has been a near complete failure, (Hehe) which means he's getting closer to 'completion'. So yeah, not something one wants to promote so much.

I just noticed we're now being hosted by HappyBoards. I don't really know why that gives me the giggles but it does. Hehe. Oops! Also just noticed it's April 1st.

All,
Thanks for sharing what happens in your life away from the keyboard. I found something to relate to in each response.
Ladyhawk's insight about about how many people are conducting their own search for meaning really resonated. During my hour lunch at work (I'm a writer) I typically read, and questions about the books I'm reading have led to further probing questions by a couple of my coworkers. We're all trying to figure it out. We're all trying to make constellations out of the stars we gather one by one on our personal journeys.
And Souley, I'm not sure how horrible your path could have been. It has brought you here to share your valuable insights with us.
