What do you guys think of this? Depersonalization disorder. This disorder is characterized by a sudden sense of being outside yourself, observing your actions from a distance as though watching a movie. The size and shape of things, such as your own body or other people and things around you may seem distorted. Time may seem to slow down, and the world may seem unreal. Symptoms may last only a few moments or may come and go over many years. www.mayoclinic.com/health/dissociative-disorders/DS00574/DSECTION=symptoms

There is this and derealization disorder which I initially thought I had when I first started having strange experiences back in 2006. I went to a therapist, doctors, etc etc. Had multiple panic attacks etc. Had no clue what was going on but this dissociative disorder was all I could think of. I've been depressed and anxious before and this was more. Things got brighter, and I would literally feel completely unreal. It was a bit like looking down on myself. The most interesting aspect of it all was interacting with other people. There was the distinct feeling that they were asleep...totally lost in who/what they thought and what they believed they were. It could have been some kind of crazy depressing spiritual experience, or maybe it was just that...a manifestation of some kind of disorder. I don't know, and I think at this point it is irrelevant, but man did it scare the crap out of me for a while. I've had maybe one similar episode in the last year, and the initial reaction is always fear. But I always reign it in and try to use it as an entry point to step into the unknowing state. It hasn't proven to be fruitful in that endeavor and I cannot seem to induce the state for purposes of exploration.
I think I know of a few ways, like psychedelics, but I'm pretty much done with that.

Hmm this does seem to describe episodes on salvia and lsd... I tend to read in a strange order, and initially thought you were describing those things...
Why reaction of fear? And how do you reign it in?

And how do you reign it in? Bring back memories I am very early 1970's flower child yup believe it or not I was once full of love Any how I have done more than my share of acid windowpane, microdot, orange sunshine etc. I never had a bad trip. I once took 7 unicorns like microdots at once went to a dead show and had just a wonderful time. However Salvia was a much different animal. I have never taken a drug that reacted like Salvia. I purchased a few 10x Salvia joints online. I blew out all my breath and on the inbreath I inhales almost the whole joint. At first it was ok a lot of colors dancing around but a moment later I was on the floor feeling like hard steel was molding itself around my body and all I could do was hold on. You really need a sitter when you do this you re not in control of your movements and can easily throw yourself through a window. When I cam out of it which was only like 5 mins or so later the shirt I had on was soaked wet with sweat you could ring the water out. Then around a half hour later I felt much lighter inside like some burdens were purge. I can see if you do this a few times in a week or so each session will become less invasive but for sure this was the strongest drug I have ever done and I have done all of them. What shocks me is this stuff is legal over the net. Michael

Michael, If you say so, I suppose it must be Yes, salvia is quite potent--people make the mistake of thinking that since it is dried plant you smoke, it is like weed-and can just be used recreationally, with few if any risks. It is not that at all--and most people I know who smoke it thinking it is like legal marijuana are woeully disappointed-and do not do it anymore. Around here, you can just buy it in a store, too. Salvia was very interesting, and I've been debating trying to use it in spiritual ways (haven't smoked any in a long time). The first time I was with a large group. At first, I laughed a lot. Then I was on the floor, too, but it wasn't unpleasant or anything-just powerful and gripping. It seemed I became different objects. I saw visions of all sorts of things--unlike anything I've seen with shrooms or acid: more vivid. It didn't last long--I think maybe 10 minutes? Afterward I went for a walk around town, feeling refreshed and energized. Knowing the original uses of the plant, I'm intrigued about how it could be used spiritually...

dreamerrach,
I am pretty sure what happen to me is I took way too much. I first tried Salvia from a girl I knew and she told me to be careful with it. It was only the dried leaves but the problem I had is I never could smoke enough to really get into it. The effect would come on so fast after the bowl was empty by the time I got to refill it the effect was over so not to make this mistake again I got 10x standardize extract and that hit me like a freight train. I did watch some youtube vids and it shows people laughing my trip was so far on the other side of that I can't relate.
All I head about the uses of the plant is some Shaman's use it is that what you heard also.

Michael, yes it sounds like it--I have not known anyone to smoke it out of anything but a bowl or vaporizer-not a joint. I do not remember if it was 5x, 10x, 30x or what that I took--tried a few different ones. Also, if it was only the dried leaves you smoked from her at first, then you went from smoking bowls of that to smoking an entire joint of stuff that had been enhanced already to 10x the potency of just the leaves. So smoking more of more potent stuff--could be easy to get way too much.
I've read about shamans using it and am intrigued.

dreamerrach,
It's just animal fear. Like if you're standing on the edge of a cliff leaning over the edge, that kind of stuff. I reign it in buy just acknowledging the fear and knowing it will not kill me. Initially panic attacks drove me nuts, but I mastered them pretty easily by just letting them do their worst. It kind of takes the teeth out of the experience when you look at the symptoms and say "this is all just annoying more than anything". lol
I had nothing but good with salvia, except one time, and yes it was definitely a matter of amount. It's been about 6 years since I did any of that though. I really did enjoy all those kinds of experiences for a while Michael, and then I got tired of it. I remember reading Richard Rose once wrote about trying acid and said it does have some abilities to tap into the absolute, but very minimal and that when it came to psychadelics "once you get the message, hang up the phone." I was kind of tickled to read that line as it was exactly how I felt. After a certain point the whole trip thing seemed to not have a draw for me. I do wonder sometimes though if it has led someone out there all or most of the way down the path.

By far the most amazing "spiritual drug" has to be DMT it's wonderful. There's a great documentary called DMT the Spirit Molecule. www.thespiritmolecule.com/film.htmlOnce you try it nothing else comes close. It's just hard to get you normally have to extract your own which is a pain. Michael

Spent a lot of time in my 20's Dreamerrach chasing down the dream of pioneers and pilgrims of acid culture. It was an elusive search for me. One that depended on one thing...the acid (or other psychadelic). For all the romance I had built up in my mind about my relationship with this wonderful newfound love of tripping, there was always a sadness at the thought that it never lasted very long, and prolonged exposure to the drugs seemed to follow the law of deminished returns.

Salvia is single-handedly the most frightening, intense, and mind-boggling thing I have ever come across. Nothing--and I mean NOTHING-- has ever scared me as much as that. I thought I was a loon for a good 3 months, and had a panic attack so bad I passed out. And I still tried it again. It's weird how things work out sometimes.
If I was a psychologist, I'd have every suicidal person that ever came into my office use that drug. You want to die? Here. In 15 minutes you'll feel more relieved and happy to be alive than you ever have in your life. Scary, scary nuts.
