It's interesting to note that I've heard people say you can't describe silence in the same way as you can't describe a tree but that's not quite true as you could describe a tree in relation to other things that person has experienced. Silence can't be related to anything so it is literally impossible to describe it in any way.

Well, yeah, I don't know who says that, but describing a tree is pretty much a no-brainer.
Silence really has nothing to do with the absence of noise.
