So this weekend I was sitting outside playing music with some friends for much longer than I'd normally expect to when I suddenly realized how 3D the world is. It's something you normally wouldn't think about at all... you just assume the world is 3D because you know it is and because you already know it there's no point in looking at it.
I swear, it was like putting 3D glasses on--everything was one big thing with layers upon layers upon layers! Then I was enjoying that particular moment when I saw a house in the distance and I noticed how tiny it was. I took a few steps closer and it grew. And then everything I looked at seemed entirely relative; I started walking around in circles watching how the sizes and shapes of various things would change depending on where it was being looked at from. It blew my mind (and still does). Even my arms and legs turned into layers, and if I held a guitar out sideways from my hips I couldn't see what it was that was making me move. It was like floating, LOL. I don't think I've ever felt so good in my life. Even in the strong wind and the cold temperature, nothing bothered me at all.
That was my weird experience of the weekend. How about you guys? Anybody have any wild things happen? It's probably not a good idea to latch onto the experience (or reinforce yours by asking you about it) but eh. It's still 3D, and I'm curious + feelin' fine.

Yeah I've experienced something like this before too. I made a thread about it a while back if you're interested. Along with the "3D" glasses effect, there's like an intimate awareness of the space in between objects, and an awareness that I am that space. I think normally we walk around with this imaginary force field between us and everything we're seeing. We imagine who we are is "back here" looking at everything "out there." Sometimes this barrier drops away for whatever reason, and what's left is the intimate experience of what is.
Don't know if it matters a bit as far as enlightenment is concerned but for me it seems to come about when I'm focusing on "what is."

Yup, pretty much. Outside of the experience my vision seems a bit different... sort of like everything is in motion together rather than individual parts moving around on an objective ground. Even the ground changes. It's just a big blob of fluid something! It's mind-boggling!

@ m. If you feel that this is an indelicate question please tell me so: Do you attribute this experience to any particular practice or discipline?

Uhh...I'm not sure what an indelicate question is. As long as you focus on the actual you'll have all kinds of weird experiences....they're just distractions really. I wouldn't go about trying to make this experience happen to you. It's just something to latch onto and say 'I did this.' Me posting my experience here was entirely ego-driven, and it'll probably distract you too. I may delete it to avoid having that happen, now that I think about it.
