Sacrificing virgins to the Sun God sometimes helps too......or maybe that's to help your crops grow, I forget.

Maybe you've noticed that 'many good things' are heard about an endless variety of rituals, practices, techniques, beliefs, mantras, whatever. It's not the ritual that has power, but the mind that believes in it, and to this extent all such endeavors work, but only until they fail to ultimately satisfy and interest is lost. Meanwhile, all of it constitutes a distraction from that which DOES ultimately satisfy, but with which mind has very little interest.

You are taking it personal which you simply don't do with this stuff. You probably did not know this but the Chinese spend billions on Feng Shui. All there buildings are design using Fend Shui.
Go tell the Chinese it's all in your head but careful they may take your head.

Yes, why take it personally, Michael? I simply offered a differing perspective on it.

No Enigma Fend Shui is not a personal thing you are mixing apples and grapes. he he I don't take anything personal and it's been years. This is why I will call you or whoever if I do not agree with you. I'm bulletproof when it comes to words.

Who said it was a personal thing? I said you are taking disagreement personally, and when that happens you start projecting up a storm, which reveals far more than you want to reveal. Take it a little slower and you won't dig yourself in so deeply.

I'm bulletproof when it comes to words. Is that really how you want to be, invulnerable to what's said to you, impervious to criticism? It's one definition of power, being able to cause effect in others without allowing them to effect us in return. Isn't the spiritual path about becoming more open, more vulnerable to others? Like the grass, changing and moving with the wind, rather than being the immovable oak standing motionless until it snaps? Isn't it basic humilty to consider the the words of another may have more merit than our own? P

I think that's very well put Peter. It's something I struggle with myself. Barriers can be a real issue. Michael needs to open up. It's not about right and wrong & it's not about winners and losers. That's an ego thing. Of course Michael is perfect as he is as is everything that happens. As are these comments!

Of course Michael is perfect as he is as is everything that happens. Well I know the non-dualists on this board (who seem to be in the majority) do take that "perfect as it is" line. But for me the Spritual Path is about Working on Self. Known thyself. The Work, Alchemical Transformation, personal development. OK so this world of different things around us may be an illusion, but within that illusion the personality can be worked on in the same way that you could go to the gym and work on the muscle group of your choice. It may all be an illusion but some illusions are fitter than others. Improve empathy, listen more, be more present, be connected, be less living in a dream, less reactionary, less run by the programs, programming and mass hypnosis that we're given by school, society, the media. It's work, it needs someone to mirror back to you and say "you're wrong, you're reacting, you're not seeing that clearly". The ego finds it unpleasant, it's called Work because it's not easy and it's not fun. It IS ultimately satisfying. Basically I'm just working on being a bit less of an arsehole. There is no spiritual life, it's all spiritual. Edit: We're forced to say bullnuts, and then I get away with "arsehole" ?!? There's no justice.

i just heard a great scott kiloby dialogue about what you're talking about peter.... on the being ordinary podcast. it's very cool - about how we can still recognize it's all just sort of what it is, but we can also, still address the human element by working with the shadow. adyashanti talks about this a lot too, or did early on in his teachings, discussing the embodiment. that kiloby podcast is here: www.beingordinary.org/2011/02/21-enlightening-the-shadow/

Peter: I know where you're coming from. I don't think that there's anything wrong with thinking that you're improving yourself. I'm happy dreaming away. If we don't have freewill it's one big joke though really. I was thinking about this the other day - I could do absolutely anything, the silliest thing, the bravest thing etc.. and pat myself on the back, but ultimately it's a con. Everything happens just as it should!

Nothing wrong with self improvement stuff at all. It's just not the focus of this forum. It's not that it's not a part of a lot of our lives. I'm sure many here keep a healthy lifestyle. Nothing wrong with that.
But we aren't talking about raw smoothies here because it just isn't the focus of this forum. But that doesn't mean that everyone here is against green smoothies just because were aren't talking about it all the time here. So too with any other self improvement course you'd like to fill in the blanks with.
