Oh, I see that two of our 2 posts conversations were moved to the oddly named "pettioggery" thread. Any idea why? Off topic? No, that can't be it, it was talk about a picture. Violation of the common decency clause? Nope, definitely not that since it was all just friends joking around and having fun. I didn't move any posts. If I do move posts, I usually leave a message with a link to where I moved it. Laughter just quoted your post from the other thread and posted it here. He sometimes does that. I'm sorry, I thought it was you Fredo, apologies.

I know a bit about indians if your interested, (oops I meant native Americans, no, oops, I meant natives, oops no, that makes them sound primitive, or whatever, so I'm just gonna call them indians) Anyway I know a little bit about them, well they teach it in school, plus I live where they did, and since I can respect that way of life, I've had an interest in ideas about them. I meet a lot of people either new or recent to the area. Most everyone pronounces Powhatan incorrectly. They are always so appreciative when I tell them the actual sound. Then can stop sounding phonically independent let's call it. He was big here once, but not a trace remains. No statue in the town square of him sat on his favourite horse? Nope, just a timeshare complex and a creek in his name. Maybe a park and some schools.

Pick your favorite, grow in abundance, if you harvest and save the seed you can save some money. I did and now I'm rich in flowers. Awesome .. Yeah I used to have Parsnip seeds in abundance.. if you leave one in the ground until the second year it gives out a tremendous amount of seed. Yeah about the infomercial. I'm picturing you there with handfuls of flowers and overflowing sacks of seeds on the floor surrounding you. We just need the composer for the accompanying catchy tune Actually no, I'm becoming a more of liability than an asset when it comes to remembering where I put last years sèed. Not sure the shelf life of that stuff, but who knows maybe they'll get lucky and have a chance at life one day.

Go walk around Midtown Manhattan at rush hour or the Upper East Side any Saturday mid-morning and get back to me afterward. Oh, I see that two of our 2 posts conversations were moved to the oddly named "pettioggery" thread. Any idea why? Off topic? No, that can't be it, it was talk about a picture. Hey Sharon, you started the Pictures (Talk) thread... did you have any expectations for where the talk should go? Any "no go" zones that you would look to report? Forget freedom of expression when a man with a stick is hovering over you That was me "self-moderating", reefs is innocent here. I just didn't want to go too far off-topic in the pics thread. It's a matter of degree that's thread specific for me. If I'm not adding any pics ...

I read an article that said to live comfortably in New York you would need at least $5 Million dollars. define comfortably I lived there on information workmans wage. I used to look at the ads for apartments in the Times back in the 90's before I went down, thinking "no way!". The banks (that I interviewed with) all want to know how much you're making now, and my first employer, the one that allowed me to break-in, put me in exactly the same economic position I was in with a $25k salary bump before I got there, but in 450 sq ft, and not needing a car.

define comfortably Lol.. I suppose that would mean so well off that you could afford to give a homelessman a hundred bucks and not worry if he came back the next day and asked again. I used to walk from Grand Central to the Port Authority or Penn Station on my way through in the '80's. I was young then, in my prime, so safe enough if I kept walking. When we got there years later it was clean and safe and we walked around at all hours. I'd think twice about it these days from what I hear. Even 20 years ago the corporations were extending the college experience for their new hires - that was a pipeline I wasn't in, but the going rate for a one-bedroom was $2500/month for that class. You could always find a place to live there within your budget 20 years ago if you look hard enough but you'd have to be willing to compromise in terms of commute, access to amenities and living space. Don't know about these days.

Although those examples seem fairly tame for even the thought for some need to self moderate to arise, I would think. But don't make me jumpy! Obviously I've run out of creative screen names!

I haven't been since 85, I hear Rudy cleaned it up. Not sure about now.

You can get away with surface stuff as a tourist. You stay in the theater district (west of 6th between 38th-45th), maybe visit the village, see the sights near the exchange, there's a great view from above ground at the Jersey city stop on the Path, a very short trip. The south street seaport near there is fun, shopping and sights, and from the Battery you can get a view of the whole harbor system. You can take a cab or a bus to go down town. Trick with cabs is to go off-rush hour. Same as visiting the Met, or, you can walk to the Moma and the southern end of the Central Park. If you go to the Met you can walk to the base of the Lake at the Bow Bridge and you'll think you're in a movie. Same with the poet's walk a few dozen yards to the south from there. You might think "why go to a park if I came here for the City", but trust me, it's on a whole 'nother scale. I'd recommend the Whitney and the Guuggenheim if you go up town.

Bucket list thing now I guess. We'll see. Shouldn't be a big deal its under 400 miles (but traffic congestion has reached peak annoyance in that corridor)

I would call that a trace then.. start a petition for a statue. Get chatting with a local sculptor, find out how much it would cost. (Just some ideas)

Someone in favor with the populous today might be crudaded against somewhere down the road, and then that group of people will have a statue tearing down event. For example, the elementary school I went to had been named for a popular Confederate general from around here once, but then after a pitchfork uprising it's now named for a dead preacher. People are fickle.

For a place that has its own tax plan they sure do cheap out on infrastructure repair. I wouldn't want to be on that island during a wicked storm.

Cultures are changing so quickly at the moment that yeah, there's the possibility of the Powhatan being out of favour by the turn of the decade. Let's hope not though. Have just run a wik search on Powhatan, that was the name of the peoples hey? And Wahunsenacawh was their leader? Sorry I did think Powhatan was the name of an individual.. doh!
