I found this page particularly interesting because it included the philosophical route. I was familiar with the idea of "grace of the guru". And while I wasn't familiar with the word "shaktipat", I was familiar with the metaphor of one lamp lighting another, and would have associated shaktipat with some physical interaction. Really, the bottom line here to me is that anyone who's ever awakened and knows that this is what's happened has had their attention directed toward awakening. So even if this is impersonally by a book, having never met the author, the events still can be described as by the grace of our culture.
