Oh my God ! You replied to this post! Story decides how much deep you are engulfed by the story. You are already in! I'm in to some degree...sure, but I still see it's just a story. I'm by no means 'engulfed.' So long as there is seeing it's a story, you can't be 'engulfed.' That really is the point.
If you see everything that happens as a story then story itself will save you,the point is, once again stort decides.

The seeing it's all a story hinges upon standing outside of the story to look "AT" the story, so no, that seeing is not part and parcel of the story. Once it's been clearly seen that what I am is not a thing arising in the story, the story loses it's grip.

You and I slightly differ in this place, You say you can witness the story without getting involved but I say there is no freedom unless story unfolds in a certain way. You say story looses it's grip but I say that would never happen because you are inside the story.

You say story looses it's grip but I say that would never happen because you are inside the story. I actually don't say I can witness the story without 'ever' getting involved. I am actually quite involved in the story...what I am saying is that there is a difference, an important one, between 'involvement' vs. 'lost to/within.'
yes, the story loses it's grip and that is precisely because it's been realized that what I actually am, is not a some-thing arising within the story, but rather, all some-things that arise within the story, are arising within/to that which I am.
The appearing character is inside the story...the fact that I can 'witness' that appearing character and watch it dispassionately, indicates that I am not bound up in/identified with that character. Rather, that character is an appearance that arises to that which I am.

My stab at poetic glory. Laffy eat your heart out. Ode To or On Enigma Oh enigma, Your jabs cause a stigma, They shock my poor meema, And stir up maligna, They sully the digna, Of worthier foes, And set of explosions, That make poor reefs glow, Red like a poker of simmering woe. As much as we struggle To topple your flow, It seems like nocturnal Felinic devices Exude from your gastric and deep formed crevices (pronounced to rhyme with devices) And grab us like vices To chatter our hopes So groveling, sniveling we all just don’t cope. Oh Enigma! Come back to the place Where your glory Is dope! wt f?? I have to admit to a really guilty and silly pleasure that's bound to make everyone lose any shred of a shadow of possibility of respect they might have had for me. : Sue and I like to watch "The Bachelor/Bachelorette". It's always the same story every season. The same-gender group that's chasing the contestant plays it out like clockwork. Groups and cliques form, but inevitably, there's always one, odd-man/woman-out who plays the role of scapegoat to a lynch mob. It's usually someone who is obviously attractive to the Bachelor/Bachelorette, and by about the 3rd or 4th week the players on the fringe who are obviously just filler by that point start venting their frustrations. Every now and then one of them does the obvious and sane thing and just goes home of their own volition, but most of them take out their negativity on the goat in a series of emotional melodrama's, probably aided and abetted by the producer's backstage. Enigma and myself differ and disagree on plenty of points, but I've always been able to get to a point of agreement to disagree and get past it onto common ground. It's always been fascinating (think Spock's eyebrow) to watch how folks get their mind's frog-hooked to the point of acting out the scape-goat lynching script.

I happen to like the frog and would like to see him back. Not interested in lynching him at all. He's a formidable opponent and I thoroughly enjoy sparring with him. Some of his debating points are classic. I was disappointed that he was banned. And more disappointed that he didn't come back. The ode was a tribute and a plea, plus really bad poetry. Lighten up. Smoke a joint. It's legal now in NY, right?
