What happens if a member is found using more than one account?
Just curious.

Well it's positively encouraged if they suffer from MPD. Much less confusing.
Whoever is taking out Enigma's Karma points is certainly doing it and I think what needs to be done is that they need to ask themselves if perhaps they need to Get A Life.

Nothing to be done about. I'm sure that will die down by itself sooner or later.

lol - I see that tin hat isn't giving you much protection either! Well, it's actually only a tin cup, the hat is a different stainless material. I wonder how many accounts zentatsu has... Why asking such a sheepish question anyway?

one nice thing about the funny karma pt obsession that is going on is that they are now as completely meaningless as they actually always have been.

Ah yes, the M1 I believe? I was surprised to see her (?) account bumped down to -ve points (<grins> evidence of my electrical engineering background) she's not written anything I'd consider offensive yet. Perhaps she's working out how to get herself back where she feels she belongs. It's OK love, we've all done it. I know I like to keep a nameless sock puppet tucked in the back of a drawer for just such an eventuality. It's taken me 3.5 years to achieve 9 points, I'm darned if I'm going to see them flushed down the toilet by some johnny come lately with an itchy trigger finger. I insist on being tried in court of my peers. I'll take it to the Haig if I have to.

Is a smile from a stranger meaningless, MaxP?
Is a kick on the shin?

Is a smile from a stranger meaningless, MaxP? Is a kick on the shin? no way! and not even close to those karma pt thingies, IMO.

kick in the pants could help In what way? Since going off topic is probably a good thing for this particular thread, I'll just mention that I'm reading Pema Chodron's Places That Scare You. Not sure I'd jump up and down to recomment it, but it's a good introduction to - and practices related to - the Four Limitless Qualities although it only seems to be Pema that calls them that. When I first came across them they were in the guise of the Brahmaviharas but fair play to Pema for making them more accessible in the West. She also talks about the "near and far" enemies of each which is, like, the near enemy is something you might confuse eg confusing pity for compassion, and the far enemy is just the downright opposite of what you're trying to cultivate; like jealousy instead of sympathetic joy. What struck me is how many references there were to Pema Chodron in Absolutely Fabulous - especially to the practice of Tonglen, although it was never named as such. "In with Anger, out with Love, sweetie". British Comedy Drama at it's very best.

Are you saying that neither being smiled at or being kicked has any meaning, and in fact they have even less meaning that Karma points, which are meaningless to begin with?

Ahh good, glad I checked. I'd very much agree both smiles and kicks are more meaningful than Karma points. I would say that that Karma points are not arbitrary in that I think for the most part they reflect the true reaction of the reader - irritation, gladness, etc. But that they are arbitrary in the sense that that reaction may have nothing whatsover with the point the original poster was trying to make or where they were coming from. I asked a meditation teacher about "meaning" once, and he said something that I've taken onboard which is that such things (actually in that particular case 'life's purpose') don't have any real or intrinsic meaning; they just have the meaning that we ourselves assign them. So the question isn't so much "are they meaningful" as "are they meaningful to you?". I do like to ask myself "what exactly is anoying me here?" before I hit the smite button as of course me hitting it will say more about me than it does about the poster. Although of course there are the days when I just think "vagina" and hit the button. If someone is smiting Enigma as a "social experiment" rather than as a good old fashioned grudge, then IMHO I really don't think he cares and it'll be a cold day in hell before he expresses any frustration about it. There are other posters on the board I think would crack way way sooner, with far more enjoyable results. EDIT: LOL. Thought that particular swear word I was trying for was too British to be picked up by an American site, BIWW. The original started with a "T" if anyone was wondering.

Perhaps some accounts have extra exalt/smite powers?
