Where does the snake/rope end, and what the snake/rope isn't, begin? Mind is a function of 'that' which is body, arranging information revealed by experiences into patterns useful to the relationship between 'that' which is and its manifested incarnation as independently functioning versions of itself, bodies.. "Independently functioning" doesn't equate with autonomous.. it references an interconnected/unified function, a process dependent on the independent perspectives and private mindscapes for the spontaneity that manifests its limitless potential.. rather than perpetuating the self-fulfilling and self-limiting feedback loops generated by attachment ideological models.. Relative to the mind/body reference, mind doesn't begin/end.. our awareness/understanding of the medium of mind comes and goes.. So, is the snake the mind and the rope is the body or is the snake the body and the rope is the mind?

You'answered your own question.. if you see a rope and believe it's a snake, there's a rope that's not your body/mind, and a snake you've imagined the rope to be..

Whatever way mind is conceived of, it's not actually separate from the body. One question that sort of straddles subjective and objective inquiry is, where does the body/mind end, and what the body/mind isn't, begin?Where does the snake/rope end, and what the snake/rope isn't, begin? The answers are different for the snake and the rope. The boundaries of the rope, like any inanimate object, are defined by some of it's characteristics, which are usually organized by utility. A rope has a length and a girth that define it's boundaries, and a tensile strength and elasticity that are indirectly related to those boundaries. The snake though, is alive and therefore inseparable from the environment that sustains it. We can think of the snake the same way we do the rope -- by a set of characteristics that begin and end at the snakes skin. But if we remove the snake from the water, food and shelter of the ground or vegetation that it needs to survive, how long will it live? Is the dead body of a snake, still a snake?
