Good read! www.emptymountains.org/middle-way.htmlHere it is as a very basic fundamental from Buddha www.accesstoinsight.org/lib/authors/thanissaro/notself2.html"In fact, the one place where the Buddha was asked point-blank whether or not there was a self, he refused to answer. When later asked why, he said that to hold either that there is a self or that there is no self is to fall into extreme forms of wrong view that make the path of Buddhist practice impossible." It wasn't coined "The Middle Way" for nothing.

If, in fact, the middle way has anything directly to do with self or no self, which is new to me, it would say 'neither self nor no-self'. (In the same way that is says 'neither indulgence nor ascetism', or 'things don't cause happiness but neither do they cause suffering') It would not say 'both self and no self'.

Why wouldn't you say that? Um......okay, to say 'both self and no self' would be like saying the middle way is both indulgence and ascetism.

Can someone please tell me which of Cyberbluntz's 10 posts were so insightfully erudite that he picked up 4 karma points?! Did I miss a post somewhere?
I've been plugging away here since 2008 and I've got a grand total of 8. In 3 years. Which is great, really, I love every one of them and I'm very attached to them. I feel like I had to work for them, and I earned them. So when Johnny-come-lately picks up 4 in two weeks...well, I have to say my feathers are ruffled.

Ah, this community is so very concerned with karma points; it makes me laugh.
You do know they are arbitrary, right?

The middle way: don't get attached to any of the perceived extremes. But if you get attached to the average and keep checking on it, it's time to pinch yourself!

Ah, this community is so very concerned with karma points; it makes me laugh. You do know they are arbitrary, right? the fun thing about them is the way they capture attention. they may be arbitrary in the average sense, but they are given or taken away for some reason in the moment. but i think when you say arbitrary you mean that they don't mean anything in particular. but how do they affect your attention? for me, still a slave to ego, my attention zips over there and looks. yours mine other... just another thing rising up. reminds me of mamzas video games. it'd be cool if they came with sounds...
