Trivia: Did you know it's far easier to formulate a conclusion than it is to verify its accuracy. Similarly, it's far easier to believe something is true than actually finding out. I wonder if people get used to having answers given to them (eg Existence of God) that can't be proved and then just get a bit lazy when it comes to critical thinking about things that can. Have you seen The Invention of Lying? I'm not saying it's a great or deep movie, but it does cast some light on how an entire population could start believing in The Man In The Sky. Also funny. |

I was initially confused by the two different aspects to your post here between desiring some preferred outcome and accepting what is, but after mulling that around for a bit I saw that the first is about 'putting it out there' for some future state, and the other is about being happy with the present. |

I've read many of these Seth quotes. It's a load of nonsense. And with that unsubstantiated and rather pointless ad hominem attack, he was gone. Deleted his account (because why shut a door when you can slam it) and walked out of their lives...again. Would they ever see him again? Probably. Perhaps next time he'll receive the recognition he craves, and be satisfied. Less probably. |

The bit about Reefs self selecting was right though, although of course he had ZD and my blessing before we wrote to Shawn. He's the first person to have seriously enquired about the job since the last moderator left. So you were aware of the new rules which Reefs was arbitrarily implementing before getting the okay from Shawn? Indeed, his "manifesto" was an essential part of the job application. It's the same approach he's suggested I should take in the past: no temp bans, no discussion, hard line on people being fuelled more by drama than topic. |

It's really a slap in the face to Peter Not at all! I found the previous level of...unpleasantness....most off putting, and if anyone can improve on that, I welcome it. I tried it my way and failed to make any headway. People only improve their character (and therefore their posting) when they choose to. And I didn't / don't have time to police bun fights. Other things that have been said in this thread: I'm pretty certain that ProBoards take any adClick commission as payment for hosting the forum, I'd be extremely surprised if Shawn himself saw any benefit. The moderators have very limited powers actually. We can't modify the functioning of the forum much at all, just delete/move posts, deal with reports and ban members. We had to approach Shawn to get Reefs' role changed. The bit about Reefs self selecting was right though, although of course he had ZD and my blessing before we wrote to Shawn. Nice, there is a deep and rich and delicate beauty to that... But why that word? Whats its significants to you? The word "Spiritual"? It's just somewhere I got to with my practice a while back, that instead of having my mundane life, and then my spiritual life, the two merged and I stopped making a distinction. So to say: "what is your practice" is now like asking "what is your life?". I suppose 'spiritual' could be stated as a feeling of being a part of a larger whole. |

BTW, it's not true to say that it's only defamation if it's not true. The act of defaming is enough to issue a writ or subpoena and to test the veracity of the defamation in a court of law. Right. So you can't actually say if it's defamation or not until it's been proven one way or the other. You can call it defamation, but if you do that you're inherently saying that it's not true. |

For the record I've already reported tano's post for defamation, for insinuating that because I am a man living in Thailand, that I use prostitutes and exploit young girls. She posted photos of men with young girls and associated that with me. That's unacceptable and I'm waiting to hear your response Peter. You haven't answered my question: have you ever paid a bar fine? HAVE YOU? Why not answer if you are squeakyclean? Because you are not. I am not 'insinuating', I am sure. Coming in here and discussing someone who wasn't participating in the conversation (and is apparently unable to ignore any criticism levelled against them in any part of the board), well that seems a bit unfair to me. I think this is your personal moral code speaking here, not the rules of the forum Peter. Ive been dragged here endless times to deal with something said about me, as many of us have, its just that it is quite rare to happen these days. Yup, think you're right there Andrew. And it's even rarer to having someone raise a complaint about it |
