karen, i can't tell whether or not anyone reading this has read the entire thread. i fall into a stupor because i take 3000 milligrams of depressants evenly spaced throughout the day it comes to 1000 milligrams every 8 hours. it's like getting out of bed and drinking a six pack just to give you an example. then repeating it every 8 hours for the last 20 years. yes i can do complex actions, but i can fall asleep in 5 minutes anytime during the day. i don't use a mat or chimes either because 5 minutes to sleep would become 2 minutes.

Robert, I can feel clearly what you are talking about here. I have had many debilitating physical conditions and seen many more people 'permanently' on different types of meds. Feeling a slave to meds is a very demoralizing experience. However, I can tell you that medicines of this sort are not in the way of your important work. They may feel that they have a masking effect...what doesn't though? TV, books, internet, food...it all has a masking effect. One of my favorite teachers had this saying "if you haven't yet found the way to freedom, and you have searched hard for it, you already found it, you just don't know it yet." Everyone has answers for freedom, and reasons they give themselves about why they can't find it. But no matter what they say, freedom is also looking for them at the same time, and will give no excuses when it reaches you...it also won't accuse you of being late, or chide you for taking medicines that extend your life. That all being said, if you feel that the medicines put you into a stupor, maybe it's time to explore other options, and widen your search for alternative treatments. I have often found that searching for one thing, one finds another. Perhaps you may find that a different regimen or lifestyle greatly reduces your dependence on these western medicines and leads to enhanced health that you can enjoy.
peace, Charlie

Yes Robert, I understood your predicament as much I can imagine. I know it's not your fault that you go into a stupor when meditating. But what I'd saying is, it would be damn hard for me to dose off the way I meditate. Meditation to me is like purposely trying to stay awake when I am predisposed to fall asleep. Have you tried mediating like this in any fashion that appeals to you? That is - with wrapped attention?

Robert take a big deep breath(haha). First if this I Am wants to wake itself up I'm sure medications are no problem-Nisgardatti was a smoker! Secondly Breathanirism or whatever, is a con job. The founder was charging thousands per disiple and only taking a couple at a time(obviuosly because when the student finds out he's been played, he's coming after the Teacher and he doesn't need hundreds after him - a couple makes it easier to get away!)The air you breath is 79% nitrogen -20% oxygen and 1% argon-take that away and good luck keeping the body alive! Good luck fellow journeyman and don't forget to laugh it could help your breathing! Breatharians don't advocate not breathing. ;D
