some comments on Andrew Cohen teachings
clip youtube andrew cohen Supermind www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJc8yyQX2K4
So how does this differ fom Amazon tribes going into trance through dance and song to initiate youths?Twelve year olds get initiated in a party/ritual, and after the party they wake up knowing all species in the forest ,have the knowledge they need to develop their physical skills in hunting, know all edible and non edible plants, all pathways of the tribe, all sacred and secret sites that the adults of the tribe know, who got this knowledge the same way when they were young..
They got initiated in a group mind,Tribal mind, but I would not call it Supermind in the way Aurobindo used it.
Nowhere near it, actually.
A similar thing was reported by a friend of mine who took part in a Santo Daime ritual (Santo Daime church uses ayuhuasca as a psychotropic drug) for the first time in her life. She never met any of the other participants, they walked around in circles, singing songs in Portuguese. After an hour or so she knew all the names of all the people present there.Without having spoken a word to anybody.
As I see it, Cohen (he is the shaman here) jumps straight from Nirvana,Ground Of Being as he calls it, into Life, with eyes wide open, commendable, but then immediately starts a group process from there, which resulted in what is described in the clip.
None of the participants has an individual realisation,(were enlightened before this process took place) and even if some might, they have no individual realised Soul, which Aurobindo calls indispensible,f i r s t s t e p s toward Supermind, the Supramental, which he stated clearly, is impossible to reach without a t o t a l purification of the whole mental, vital and physical being,a process Cohen nowhere describes, he only wants to ''deconstruct the ego'', but that results in Nirvana, while the ego is n e e d e d for the development of the individual soul.(it is a gradual process of purification and transformation).
These people experienced,at best,a collective Nirvana.
It is the grain of sand that forms, through pain, the pearl...it is the pain that creates the cry for help, aspiration, that gets the Answer from the Divine, but these are concepts Andrew Cohen does not even recognise, let alone practises.
So, I am sorry to say, it is not Supermind but Tribal mind, interesting as it may be,it seems to have little to do with evolution of the species toward a new manifestation, despite mr Cohen´s claims..
It will never lead to physical immortality,as it doesnt aim for that..I think it could be even dangerous.
It might work socially ,only for those included, (the tribe) where have we seen that before..early christians...this is the grain of a new religion, which we, Aurobindo least of all, do not want.
And...Globalisation without individuals?NO THANKS...
I think it is (his "Supermind") going for a grandscale erasion of "ego" in those who participate, and there will be no space for individual enlightenment, kind of sovietstyle grandscale agriculture with no room for individual gardening..
(=true enlightenment…)(small gardens will die)
Cohen literally states that the nature of enlightenment is changing.
Is it because his students dont get enlightened?
.It is dangerous.I can see the mindless army marching...they feel great, so they must be right...tribe comes first...and tribes fight other tribes...why??they havent cleaned up the lower vital, lower chakras.()big questions they never answered.
It is the chanting which is the key…(in his retreats you have to chant many hours) it is all vital uniting, feels great, for sure, like a church community singing, all higher vital (aurobindo terms,)without any real enlightenment , no true realisation of the psychic being. ''Community singing'' is absurd in yoga with a random group of people who all go their own way after a retreat...they get tangled up...yes, to Mr Demon. And then the rest of their lives they wonder why they do not make any spiritual progress...yes ground of being...no light, no truth, no love or just sporadic glimpses...
his closest disciples will protest: not true!!
of course, they get the candy...(and they too dont know any better.)
to lure in the others who are less advanced and have no opening of the inner being/perception.
I have seen before how this works: you give them some light, or a feeling of ''love'', and then they become addicted to you...they are sincere, so they receive the light directly from the divine, which then in turn he (omnipresent right?) sucks up, and, to keep the customers satisfied, gives back to them but in a diluted form..this all happens outside the view of his disciples...as they do not have a clue as to what is going on.
Again, read the books i recommended.Sri Aurobindo was a genius who saw this mechanism and described it and warned against it.
?
pride, vanity and desire led Mr Cohen astray.
it is possible that he isnt even aware of this himself.
These hostile forces are very clever:
The lower nature is ignorant and undivine, not in itself hostile but shut to the Light and Truth. The hostile forces are anti-divine, not merely undivine; they make use of the lower nature, pervert it, fill it with distorted movements and by that means influence man and even try to enter and possess or at least entirely control him. [24:1733]
The reality of the Hostiles and the nature of their role and trend of their endeavour cannot be doubted by anyone who has had his inner vision unsealed and made their unpleasant acquaintance.

Of course the average student is overwhelmed and mightily impressed.
His support for Obama is just scary...Obama proposed legislation :arrest on suspicion with no lawyer and no time limit..this is fascism- (the youtube clip from fox news, where Obama gives the speech to some army union was removed...)
and Cohen supports globalisation, mixed with wall street and pentagon. It is dangerous.
Also, Cohen thinks that ´´dead people are dead´´, so how does he even dare to mention Aurobindo, whose portrait he flashes in some of his clips..as if he would rank among the likes of Aurobindo...
The realised Soul is immortal, the body is temporary, so far, and this means one can call in the help of any of these teachers, even when they are ''dead''...if they were realised Souls that is, instead of mindless links to Nirvana, like the Ramana Maharshi, Papaji school and now too Cohen ,I'm afraid.
P:S:i meditated for one year every weekend with an ex 13 yearlong student (in the USA ashram of Andrew Cohen),and his partner 6 years with Cohen. They speak highly of Andrew Cohen...They robbed me of the LIGHT,they had no idea what i was talking about when i mentioned Aurobindo.Which is very strange.Too many difficult questions if they HAD read aurobindo ??
These people now give meditation training and ´´retreats´´ and make good money from it.
It is scary,and sick.
Cohen quotes Jesus :´´judge a tree by its fruits´´ ...need i say more
he wants ´´to make a difference´´...yes. well so did Adolf Hitler...and i can think of a few others...what kind of ´´goal´´ is that?
EGO
for a better understanding of the difference between spiritual teachers, see my essay here, ´´the difference between Mooji and JedMcKenna.´´, where i also mention Andrew Cohen.
have a nice day
