Everything is impermanent, so how can a realization be permanent?
Common ailments amongst the human species are fear, insecurity and self condemnation.
...hmm, which reminds me...
Chapman: Trouble at mill.
Cleveland: Oh no - what kind of trouble?
Chapman: One on't cross beams gone owt askew on treadle.
Cleveland: Pardon?
Chapman: One on't cross beams gone owt askew on treadle.
Cleveland: I don't understand what you're saying.
Chapman: [slightly irritatedly and with exaggeratedly clear accent] One of the cross beams has gone out askew on the treadle.
Cleveland: Well what on earth does that mean?
Chapman: I don't know - Mr Wentworth just told me to come in here and say that there was trouble at the mill,
that's all - I didn't expect a kind of Spanish Inquisition.
[JARRING CHORD]
[The door flies open and Cardinal Ximinez of Spain [Palin] enters, flanked by two junior cardinals...
Cardinal Biggles [Jones] and Cardinal Fang [Gilliam].
Ximinez: NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition! Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise....
Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency....
Our *three* weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope....
Our *four*...no... *Amongst* our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise.... I'll come in again.
[The Inquisition exits]
Chapman: I didn't expect a kind of Spanish Inquisition.
[JARRING CHORD]
[The cardinals burst in]
Ximinez: NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition! Amongst our weaponry are such diverse elements as:
fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope, and nice red uniforms - Oh darn!
Everything is impermanent, so how can a realization be permanent?
Common ailments amongst the human species are fear, insecurity and self degradation.
Some humans, in an attempt to counter such things, will seek out things that will evoke feelings of security,
stability and a sense of high worth.
Such things would have the attributes of being larger than themselves, not easily destroyed (having a high level of innate power), and lasting, at the least, longer than their own lifespans.
I theorize this is one of the main reasons why so many remain attached to religions.
God is all powerful, lives for eternity, and is far bigger than we puny humans.
This is the kind of permanence that one can dedicate their lives to.
Only glitch with this is no one can prove, or has yet proven that their version of god exists,
and it seems to me that's why many religious folk state that one does not need proof,
one simply needs to believe\have faith it's true.
Therefore, the thing one attaches oneself to, stands on, encases themself in, does not even have to actually be permanent.
All one has to do is believe it is, and hey presto, no more fear and insecurity.
Therefore, for some, the issue is not really about truth, it's about finding relief from those painful sensations of fear and insecurity.
And one of the most common practices amongst humans is delusion...this is usually done unconsciously, though all it takes is an increase is awareness and integrity to reveal such "hidden" mechanisms.
And i think it's so common because it is the path of least resistence and effort. It is the mental act of believing reality to be XYZ even when it actually isn't. Once a subjective truth has been created in a person's mindtank, all negative sensations will subside because the person has relabeled their speculations\theories\observational-experiential conclusions(doubt\uncertainty)
as absolute truths( no more doubt\absolute certainty).
I mean, it's not much of a selling spiel is it, to state that Realization is temporal.
If you're going to proclaim a truth as huge as Realization, i am sure someone in history realized,
"Holy sh1t, better state it's permanent, otherwise it just don't seem so valuable,
it's not worth much if the bl00dy thing starts crumbling under your feet after a few years."
The permance i was talking about is like that: It's true, true, true...
Therefore the realisation does not live in the mind, because the mind monkey goes more like that:
I have found the truth... Oh I am so great... But maybe this guy is closer to truth than me... Oh no, does that mean I haven't found the ultimate truth... What is the ultimate truth... I don't know... What did I learn in the last ten years... Nothing... I am such a loser... I don't know anthing... Maybe I should talk to the other guy... or I have to meditate more...
