Hamas has in their Charter that Israel as a nation must end. That perspective is difficult to reason with. Islamist terrorists do not understand their own religion. They are like the Inquisition of the Catholic Church, just wrong. The problem is that Militant Islam has a long term view, even to thousands of years. They believe their view will eventually win out, sacrifices today, sacrifices of self are minor.
Now add to that how their children are raised. Children are brought up even as babies to hate Jews and see them as enemies.
To keep things stirred up it takes only one person firing one rocket.
Right now ISIS is the problem. Obama didn't want to get his hands dirty in Syria, no policy. ISIS has come out of Syria and has taken over vast areas of Iraq. Obama has finally grown some balls, food and water to the Christians escaping threat of death from ISIS has given him an excuse to bomb ISIS. ISIS is now eighteen miles from Irbil. We have to give the Kurdish fighters, the Peshmerga, all the weapons they need plus air support against ISIS. ISIS has to be stopped now.
The point is eventually when ISIS gets strong enough, they will head back toward Israel. If this happens Israel will not think twice about using Nuclear weapons against ISIS if it comes down to us or them. At that point the Gaza problem now will look like a picnic. And then who knows what Pakistan might do? (The only Muslim nation with nuclear weapons).
Obama has been an idiot up until now. His policies have made the whole Mideast more unstable.

War (and not as metaphor) is one of if not the most extreme expression of the madness of humanity, and when it ends, however it ends (absent destruction of the planet or the death of large swaths of the species), is a moment of preciousness, even if it might break out again eventually, and regardless of winner or loser.

Combine the best of both religions and start again, conditioning each others children rather than re-conditioning their own. Will work quicker that way.

In all seriousness, I'm not sure there is a solution. Most all social animals (including humans) will war. Whether it's about overt identification with an ideology or a more primal identification with a pride, a colony or simply a territorial dispute. Walk outside on a summer day and pay close attention to the ground. You will find ants murdering each other by the millions.

According to Bert Hölldobler and Edward O. Wilson who are two of the top experts in myrmecology (study of ants), there are approximately 10,000,000,000,000,000 ants at any given moment. There are no truces or negotiations between colonies. Ants will even raid other colonies, murder everyone and take the unborn. Later putting them to work for the good of their colony.

I often see colonies, frantically take their eggs underground whenever I move stones or pots they've built their nests under. And I just gathered that this was to protect them from becoming bird food, though it could be to get them away from other ants as well, yeah? ~ As a sidenote I thought of you the other week. There was a small clump of something on a shrub branch at a garden, and as I looked closer, it was revealed as a nest of baby spiders. What I understand is that the mother carries the sack until maturity then she must just leave them somewhere safe. Because I disturbed the shrub, the nest came to life, and loads, probably a 100 or so, wee spiders started dancing away from each other. It was well cool to watch. I tried filming them on my phone, though really I needed your micro-photography kit. They all danced back into their little ball at the end.
