Hello, I'm new to the forum. The writings of Geneen Roth link food and spirituality, how when you eat too much or too little, you are reflecting the belief that you will never get enough, or that you do not deserve to eat. She advocates listening to your body and ditching diets, simply eating until you are not hungry anymore, rather than when you are full. The great thing about this is you can eat whatever you want, whatever your body needs (not your mind!) Marianne Williamson has also written to an extent on how the subconscious ego influences our body size. Once you are connected to your inner aliveness it tends to sort things out for you. I still enjoy chocolate on a daily basis and I weigh about 118 pounds at 5'4, it's all about listening to your body and not about what diet gurus tell you about what foods will kill you and what foods will make you look thin. The media makes us think that we should be thinner than we need to be. I'd really suggest looking up 'intuitive eating', as that's an eating philosophy that is compatible with presence and awareness, and Geneen Roth's work for anyone who struggles with this; there are guidlines online so you don't have to buy anything. We forget to just listen to our bodies! www.intuitiveeating.org/content/10-principlesAlthough a lot of what I've said is practical advice, I do believe there is a strong link between over/under eating and spirituality. I'm also starting to think that, relatively regardless of diet, spiritual blockages and lack of awareness can lead to subconscious influence of the physical body; have you noticed that many people who don't seem to eat much at all are still overweight? The subconscious mind thinks it is in starvation mode and rebels using your physical body. I haven't actually. I've noticed a lot of very heavy people pretend to eat little, but if you were to follow then throughout the day, I'd wager they'd be sneaking in food here and there. I know the mentality well. Yesterdays "cheating" becomes the norm and thus no longer feels like an indulgence. I if didn't say it out loud or with my inner narrator, I pretended it didn't happen. Definitely though I agree get away from dieter's mentality if possible. Weight gain seems to be the effect of unconscious living. Therefor it seems like conscious living would be the remedy, and for me that seems key. I gave up dieting altogether myself as something I would force myself to do. I was OK with letting it just happen if it happened, but I was not going to give myself once ounce of grief over dieting. At this point I was over eating. I'd eat till full, and then eat a little more. I knew intellectually it was probably trying to fill emptiness, powerlessness, etc., but like I said I felt powerless. But I would watch it as much as possible. Eventually things turned around. I focused only on non-conceptual awareness practices. Then the methods and motivations and the weight loss just happened on their own.

"Weight gain seems to be the effect of unconscious living. Therefor it seems like conscious living would be the remedy, and for me that seems key."
That's the deally right there as I see it too. It can be applied to all addictions, which have to remain somewhat unconscious in order to sustain themselves. Going unconscious is something the mind excels at, as you talk about in the first paragraph.

We need to observe the subconscious drive (egos) within and go against their desire :-) Enlightened beings are never overweight as gluttony is one of the subconscious state one must overcome. If you observe your mind, it's the thoughts that lead you into action...such as the thought of "that donut is yummy, I want to eat it"..then your hand pick it up and put it in your mouth. Self aware is very important :-)

This reminds me of a Jesus statue I saw in a Mormon Temple. He was ripped, nice abs and pecs, ear-length surfer hair. Looked like he could have come off a Men's Health magazine cover.

In the upcoming Batman v Superman movie, who is the Batman? Judas? It's a secret for now. But I can tell you that the movie itself has been 50/50 with the private reviewers.
